If so, how is "flecha" different from "vano"?

DRAE gives "sagita" as a meaning for "flecha"; aquélla se define así: "Porción de recta comprendida entre el punto medio de un arco de círculo y el de su cuerda. "Vano" is the opening itself rather than a measurement therof.
