This phrase is refering to the three types of flowers used in the Day of the Dead Holiday celebrated in Mexico and other spanish-speaking countries. The three types of flowers do not have a literal translation into english because they are regional flowers. Cempasuchitl is an orange flower, named by the traditional Aztec indians of long ago. El cresto de gallo is red (head-dress of a rooster literal translation) and El cresto del nino is soft blue shaded. They are used to decorate grave sites of deceased loved ones, home altars, and parades and carnivals.

Stacey tiene TODA la razón.

El cempasúchitl es parecido a la flor llamada en inglés 'marigold', y es de género masculino (no 'la cempasúchitl'). La celebración del día de muertos, en la que se hacen ofrendas con esas flores, acaba de pasar: fue el 2 de noviembre.

Lo sé porque he vivido en México toda mi vida...
