Cuando se usan cortafríos, punteros o "parpelinas" se hará sujetándolos con pinzas, tenazas, empleando protectores de goma en los mismos, o bien con las manos protegidas por guantes.

I would guess that it's something like a chisel from the context, but can anyone tell me exactly what it is? TIA!

As I said in my added note, I think it's the right tool but the wrong name in English. For lack of any other suggestions, I decided to go with "flat chisel." Thanks for answering.
