Spanish to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering | | Spanish term or phrase: manzanas y tareas | In an ESL (English as a Second Language) class for adults which takes place in the same building where I work, people of Spanish-speaking origin were talking about sizes of land (such as hectares, acres, etc.)
A Mexican man came to my office to tell me that the Guatemalans in the class were saying that when they purchase land they buy a certain amount of "manzanas" and that certain amounts of manzanas equal tareas.
I was wondering if anyone has heard of this. I'm Central American and have never heard "manzanas" used this way.
I've heard of La Gran Manzana = New York City
or
Voy a darle una vuelta a la manzana = I'm going around the block, but not as acres or anything similar.
Can anyone shed light as to what is a "manzana" and what the size might be? |
