plain stitch

Explanation:
I am a knitter and the two stitches used in knitting are plain or purl. I think this is therefore most likely to be 'plain'. This is also sometimes called 'knit'.

Example sentence(s):
  • If the former, the stitch is denoted as a knit stitch or a plain stitch; if the latter, as a purl stitch.
