In Spain \'pantano\' is popular for \'embalse\' same as \'marisma\' is popular for \'pantano\'. So, quite generally the best translation for \'pantano\' is \'reservoir\' and for \'swamp\', \'marisma\'.

disagree  Jane Lamb-Ruiz: that is an ugly mistranslation and I completely disagree with it...Didn't know the word meant reservoir...so..if the RAE says that..reservoir is the thing. What ugly attitude?

Pleae note: The things may be a Reservoir but the Word Pantano in Spanish is not reservoir. Had they meant reservoir in Spanish, they would have/should have used it.

It is not up to the translator to change the meaning that way..Routa de los Pantanos is Marsh Road..not Reservoir Road even if they silly things are reservoirs.

neutral  Sheilann: Vox populi gave it the name. The dams were part of Franco's project to store water for times of drought. Surrounding area is barren, arid and granite. Often go there at weekends. Technically, you're correct. I'd take you if you come to Madrid.

agree  Rebecca Jowers: yes, IF the "Ruta de los Pantanos" is is the M-501 highway (Madrid province), the reservoirs/artificial lakes in question are "Burguillo" and "San Juan" and in this case couldn't be translated as "swamps"
