En este sentido ha sido crucial fijar el contenido de los discursos identitarios locales a través de: (1) estudio en profundidad de materiales de muy diversa índole mediante análisis de contenido: publicidad, documentos oficiales, bibliografía local, guías, iconografía local…, (2) entrevistas en profundidad (grabadas y posteriormente transcritas) con informantes clave (entre quince y veinte en cada zona de estudio), y (3) la observación participante de rituales festivos, espacios públicos, eventos, celebraciones…, estrategia clave para penetrar en la vida local y corroborar la presencia de los discursos de identificación en la práctica de los sujetos sociales (más allá de la mera adscripción verbal a los mismos mediante cuestionarios y encuestas).

The basic idea here is as follows: instead of obtaining information by simply recording the remarks of persons by means of questionnaires and surveys, it is critically important to enter into the local life as a "participant observer" in order to understand what is really going on.
