Tourism & Travel
Spanish term or phrase: turismo activo
From a tourist guide:

"...,así como sus las numerosas fincas, haciendas, cañadas y enclaves naturales, donde poder disfrutar del ***turismo activo*** y de naturaleza."

"Active tourism" just doesn't sound right to me. Any ideas?
Thanks for your help.

active tourism
Explanation:
active tourism IS right. Please have a long look at the link provided, which explains the (sometimes subtle) differences between adventure tourism, active tourism, ecotourism and action tourism.

We had a poll yesterday and an ongoing discussion about what is important in translating a text. If you put adventure tourism you will NOT be faithful to the original.

Please also check Google to see the numerous times "active tourism" comes up

Here is a very small excerpt from the link:

Active Tourism does offer some activities of Action and Adventure Tourism but it excludes activities and practises that are harmful to the environment and pose a threat to biodiversity and local culture. Most important is the attitude and the practices and guidelines by which an activity is carried out.

Sorry, just seen your note. I honestly don't know. There may be a subtle difference, such as active tourism not being harmful to the environment, and activity tourism not taking that into account. I note that you can say turismo de actividades in Spanish. I would stick with the literal translation here, because that is what the original text says

adventure tourism

Explanation:
Adventure tourism is a type of niche tourism involving exploration or travel to remote areas, where the traveller should expect the unexpected. Adventure tourism is rapidly growing in popularity as tourists seek unusual holidays, different from the typical beach vacation.

Adventure tourism typically involves travelling into remote, inaccessible and possibly hostile areas. It may include the performance of acts that require significant effort and grit and may also involve some degree of risk.

activity tourism

Explanation:
Activity tourism may not be exactly the same as adventure toursim. Activity tourism may inculde activities such as rambling, golf, and others not necessarily considered adventurous.

Notes to answerer
Asker: I agree, its definitely not Adventure. Any difference between Active and Activity tourism you think?

agree  Susana Galilea: you know what? I agree with you 100%. I had a feeling "adventure tourism" was a bit more "active" than what the original was describing. I was not aware "active tourism" existed as a term, thanks Nikki.

-> Thanks Susana.I've had to translate this before so needed to make sure I hadn't made a mistake in choosing the term active tourism! All the info I found was certainly very interesting for future reference.
