Spanish term or phrase: casco histórico (in this context)
Hola, amigos.

historic farm buildings

Explanation:
Personally I would avoid "compound" for aesthetic reasons, as it makes me think of a prison - not a desirable connotation for tourism. Another option is "farmstead", which has old-world feel, but this ecompasses the farmland as well as the buildings. "Farm" could be replaced with "ranch" if you prefer.

If I am not mistaken "casco" in this context refers to more buildings than just the one old "main building".

neutral  Hermeneutica: Problem for me with "farm" is that it suggests more agriculture [although there are pig farms, I know!] and ranch is too ... well, "Dallas". The estancia is a special concept and I would want to keep the original & esp. not migrate from New World to Old

farmstead; main farmhouse and outbuildings

Explanation:
"farmstead" is the most succinct way of describing it. Sure, it includes the land, but there's no exact equivalent either, other than saying it "the long way" (which I also included in my answer above).
Definition of "farmstead":
the buildings and adjacent grounds of a farm
farmplace: a farm together with its buildings

casco = main house, so "historic main house"

Explanation:
Is what you call it in English when referring to similar properties.
How do I know? T'm from Argentina, thus familiar with estancias, and then I've lived most of my life in or "surrounded by" historic properties in England, the US and now in France.

The compound is the entire thing, all buildings together, sometimes surrounded by a wall, fences, hedges, etc. and separating it from, basically, the land.

Cheers

Dee

Then in the other case I would have said "2 houses in the main building" [FR is nice in that it has "corps de bâtiment" for this].
To Simon Bruni: In the US it can have pos or neg connotations - e.g. the Kennedy compound at Hyannisport, the Branch Davidian compound at Waco. Personally I don't like it either, but that's just my own preference.

I got confused - this note about Simon was supposed to be re Henry Hind's comment to my "disagree". Simon [here] - I can only tell you how I've always heard the word used in Argentina [home of the estancia FWIW :) ]

Historic compound of the house

Explanation:
