agree  Nikki Graham: yes, I think you are right, but I do not think "common areas" is the correct register for a hotel. Open-plan lounges would be the term I would choose. / a zona de estar is not, IMHO, a dining-room

  -> Thanks, Nikki. Actually, "common areas" is quite a well, common term used. I agree, it sounds horrible. See Google search for "common areas" + hotel. Lots of hits! Yes, you're right about "zona de estar", I had lost track of the original question!
