I asume you put the right pair of languages...
If you are native English speaker you would know if approach or approaching or which is the best way to say it.
I understand that they made an "approach", they went near the place by "trekking"... However, "approach" or "aproximación" does not mean they "reached" the place, but just "near" the place.
That's what I understand. Hope it helps.
