Spanish term or phrase: audición comentada
From a Spanish tourism text about flamenco and flamenco clubs:

y en todas ellas, de manera regular, hay actuaciones a cargo de profesionales o aficionados, o simplemente AUDICIONES COMENTADAS, con lo que la cultura flamenca tiene en las peñas un soporte de extraordinaria importancia.

Is this something more than a common recital?

recital/performance OR (music) listening session with commentary
Explanation:
You're right that it could be a recital or performance (I am quite sure it's not an audition with people trying out for a part), but it could also be a "listening session" where flamenco music is simply played and someone comments on it. I'm almost inclined to believe it's the latter, because of two things: 1) "actuaciones" was mentioned right before that, and 2) the use of the word "simplemente". In any case, it's designed to be sort of a music appreciation thing so people understand more about what they're listening to.

No, I don't think anyone is getting "graded" on their performance -- I think the music (whether taped or a live performance) is being explained to further an understanding of this type of music.

I really don't think meaning 3 ("audition") fits in your context.

commented performance

Explanation:
That's the way I would translate it... (or what it means to me)

It is a performance just the same as any other where there is someone (that it is suposed to be the expert) explaining what is going on or will happen, emphazing here and there the "most important facts" of the performance.

It is a a performance "commented" by an expert or someone who knows,
