Spanish term or phrase: los cocodrilos se despachan a gusto
El instinto migratorio es tan fuerte que los animales mueren en los ríos al intentar cruzar las aguas, donde los cocodrilos se despachan a gusto.

I am not happy with my "finish them off with relish".

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks

the crocodiles {help themselves}/dispatch them/{snap them up} at their leisure
Explanation:

I feel that "a gusto" (at ease) isn't the same as "con gusto" (with pleasure"

More suggestions re 'despacharse':

"dispatch" retains the humour/irony of the ST, also connotations of speed, in ironic contrast to "at their leisure"

while the idea of the crocodiles helping themselves at their leisure has something wrily ironic about it - perhaps from the very 'gentility' of it

"Snap them up" is of course an obvious choice for crocodiles, but perhaps still retains the humour, as above

crocodiles have their day/way with them

Explanation:
Maybe a bit informal.

Example sentence(s):
  • Migratory instinct is so strong that the animals die while trying to cross the waters, where crocodiles have their day with them.

too colloquial ? I toyed with 'gobble them up' to show their evident relish (!)
