From a text on leisure events:

El estuvo en el proceso de fundación de la más antigua de éstas asociaciones, la bautizada -con escaso laconismo- (the long-winded name of an association).

Could "bautizada" be translated as "so-called" or is that straying a little too far?

To answer your question about using "so-called", well, I wouldn´t for these reasons:

Definiciones de so-called en la web en inglés:

acting or being something in name only, but not in reality

alleged(a): doubtful or suspect; "these so-called experts are no help"
wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn
