Spanish term or phrase: joya turística
Describing the coat of arms of the town of Lajas, Puerto Rico:

"...el ancla [representa] sus costas y la joya turística de La Parguera."

I need a CREATIVE solution here! I know what's meant. La Parguera, a fishing village within the municipality of Lajas, is blessed with a bioluminescent phenomenon that makes its Phosphorescent Bay a major tourist attraction. "A gem/jewel of a tourist attraction"? How do I fit it (or your suggestion) into the sentence? "The jewel in its touristic crown"? I have half a dozen other ideas, most of them gag-producing, and I have to send this translation in the next 4 hours or I don't get to watch the Oscars. Help!

Asker: As Deborah said, "pearl" is simply beautiful. But I just couldn't bring myself to write "touristic." It's in the dictionary, but to me it sounds calqued from Spanish. Thanks, Yaotl.

Asker: Instead of a gem or jewel, you had a crystal ball! Bardem's comments in Spanish to his mom were sweet. Thanks for your answer; you gave me the courage to stick with my original translation. "A tourist's dream" is nice, too. Next time I do this sort of text I'll check out this page again for ideas. Thanks!

Asker: A bit too much, I think, in an article that is more about the town itself than about tourism. Nonetheless, the suggestion is very nice and could be quite useful in another context. Thanks, Elaine.

sparkling attraction

Explanation:
trying to get creative on a Sunday evening... that's a tall order!

anyway, how about this, 'sparkling' covers the idea of 'joya' whilst 'attraction' deals with 'turística'. I don't like 'touristic' much myself, sounds a bit too obviously translated to my ear.

best of luck on your mission!

Asker: And yet, look how many creative ideas I got for all three of my questions from this text! Thanks again, Lucy. I agree on "touristic"--just couldn't make myself use it, even though the sentence would have been easier to put together.

Asker: Oh, but I think they would! Personally, the art museum in Ponce is my favorite place on the southern route. Thanks for a good option.

Asker: Ooh, bad syntax! I wish we could edit these comments. Sorry. "My personal favorite on the southern route is the art museum in Ponce." There, that's better!

Asker: La Parguera's great, but it's no Versailles! It's a good phrase, but I think it's a little too much for the context. Thank you for your contribution and the research; I read all three stories!

Asker: Clarification: I read 3 of the 4 stories you cite, though I had to search because a couple of the links didn't work for me. I never did find the Audubon Magazine one.
