grow stately trees
Explanation:
Necesitaria más contexto pero no creo que sea verbo transitivo, o sea, no se necesita "they" sino que àrboles es sujeto del verbo.

they germinate trees that are tall (in size)

Explanation:
In their ornamental gardens they germinate trees that are tall (in size)

"in size" is really not necessary since "tall" already describes the meaning

stately/lofty/towering trees (grow) [but see below]

Explanation:
"de alto porte" somehow seems to have connotations of stateliness

in the (flower) beds, (there) grow/are stately trees, the majority of which were....

... In the beds, there are stately trees - the majority of which were...

Either "they grow... trees" or simply "... trees grow" would do, imo. However, it's fairly obvious that the trees are growing, so this could easily be omitted

If you wanted to stray a little further from the literal:

Its flower beds boast stately trees, most of which were...

Its flower beds are home to stately trees,....

OR, if the preceding sentence is short, you could tag this on:

..., whose flower beds boast stately trees

ETC, etc

stately trees spring up

Explanation:
I think you have many good suggestions for "de alto porte," but I think it's important to translate "germinan" in a way that emphasizes that these are new trees growing that are the offspring of the original stock brought by American botanists. At least, that's the way I interpret it--that it's not just that the botanist planted some trees and now they've grown big, but that they established a self-reproducing colony.
