The full sentence is:
"La cala Barranco de Maro está situada en la desembocadura del barranco de dicho nombre y se llega a ella pasado el kilómetro 294 de la N-340 en dirección hacia Almería, aunque el último trozo hay que hacerlo andando o en un todo terreno."

I can't work out whether this means you arrive there after driving 294 kilometres on the N-340 or after arrive at kilometre 294 of the N-340.

In many countries it's common to have these markers on the highways- for example in Argentina (where I just spent my vacation), heading to the coast, every marker denotes the distance in km from Buenos Aires.
