I feel a bit stuck in the translation of the following utterance:
"....provocando un serio déficit de posicionamiento institucional y empresarial con relación a tres cuestiones clave..."
I would really appreciate your opinion on how "serio déficit de posicionamiento" could be translated here. I am enclined to render it as a lack of agreement however I am not sure whether I wouldn't be going too far with such a translation. Afterall, "posicionamiento" means "stance, position, opinion, viewpoint, perspective etc." While agreement means "shared opinion". Therefore there is a slight difference between the two. I've come up with some translations but they didn't seem to sound very natural. "Lack of opinion" does seem to be an option but then I don't believe that it tends to collocate with "serious". It just doesn't sound right.

hi myska! To put my answer more simply, it could be written like this:
"with the result that (they) did not adequately position (themselves)..."
Here, "déficit" is translated by "not ... adequately". I think that's what it comes to in English.

Asker: Thank you, Deborah. As usual, I really like your translation. However, isn't translating "déficit" as "failure" a bit too strong? If I wanted to keep the translation as "lack" could this still collocate with the wording you have suggested?

I read it that "positioning" here means the stance or approach that they take; they have no clearly defined stance to qwhatever the issues in question are ...
