Spanish term or phrase: "dinosaurios"
From an article on the line-up for the International Atlantic Salsa festival:

También se barajan otros nombres, que de momento no están confirmados, tales como Lalo Rodríguez o Eddie Santiago. Estaremos a la expectativa para ver si este, ya buen cartel, se termina de poner bueno con alguno de estos dos “dinosaurios” de la salsa romántica.

I don't think that "dinosaurs" would be appropriate at all, given its negative connotations. Any alternatives? It's not coming to me...

giants
Explanation:
These people are big names in salsa (and not that old, they're in their early 50's)

Thanks everyone! I really think Emma's answer was the closest in meaning here. "Legends" is also a good option. Thank you all. :)

agree  Richard Boulter: I think this equates with 'elder statesmen' as suggested in Discussion by Martin. That could also be entered as an Anwer with which I could agree.

elder statesmen

Explanation:
one suggestion among many: perhaps this might suitably emphasise the position of respect/authority/seniority which they occupy within their profession, as much as the admiration they receive from the public
