Spanish term or phrase: Columna fasciculada

Columnas de una catedral que sustentan una serie de bóvedas de crucería estrellada. Según Wikipedia: "Es la columna que está conformada por una serie de delgados fustes, similares, agrupados a modo de haz". ¿Alguna sugerencia?

Fluted columns have shafts decorated with a series of 16 or more facets or sides.
Examples with vertical bands of inscription running down one or more sides of
the column are known. While sometimes referred to a “proto-Doric,” these columns are not related to the development of the ﬂ uted Greek column.

neilmac: Not sure if there is an important difference, but "fluted" sounds better to me and I know some people would struggle with "fasciculated"...

-> I think there's a slight difference, in that, as Gilla says below, "fasciculated" cannot be used to refer to Greek fluted columns...

Gilla Evans: There is a difference: the fasciculated column emphasises the outer bands of the column, whereas a fluted column refers more to the grooves, or inner parts. Egyptian fasciculated columns are not the same as Greek fluted columns.

-> Yes, "fasciculated" can't be used for Greek fluted columns. Depending on the target audience, you could use the more familiar, general term (if possible) or the more specific term. I'd use "fasciculated", since the context seems to warrant it.

While the cathedral itself was built in stages between the 13th and 16th centuries, the Psalette cloister was constructed between the 15th and 16th centuries. The surviving parts of the building illustrate the differences between Gothic and Renaissance architecture. The first gallery dates from the 15th century and its façade is laid out in the medieval style. The rib vaulted ceiling rests on **fascicled columns** (a number of small columns attached to a central column). The decoration consists of plant motifs in high relief - cabbages, bunches of grapes, ivy, etc.

Here they use the term "FASCICULAR". It's an English translation so I'm not sure that it's 100% correct.

ARCHITECTURE
The collegiate church was erected between 1541 and 1559 by Pedro de Irazábal from Guipuzcoa. He based his construction on the Cathedral El Salvador ("la Seo") in Zaragoza and the Cathedral of Barbastro. A temple marking the transition from the Gothic to the Renaissance style. It has a square ground floor (Hallenkirche), with the three naves each of being of the same height. Round arches. ***Fascicular columns*** in the main nave, cylindrical columns in the presbytery and ringed columns in the choir. Star-shaped ribbed vaults, decorated with 14 different motifs. The interior walls are completely clad in mortar and plasterwork. The main entrance in the Renaissance style is the work of the master sculptor Juan-Miguel de Orliens and his assistant stone-mason Juan de Escorz, who crafted it in 1611.

BTW- the Roman symbol - representing unity and authority -was a bundle of rods holding an axe. After WW I it became the symbol of the italian nationalists who adopted the symbol and became known as 'Fascistas' [Eng. Fascists].
