This is part of a long text by the government agency, Puertos de Estado, in Spain. It describes agents that can affect ports and breakwaters. Here is the context:

3.4.6.6 Rotura de ondas en ***mares cruzados***
Cuando el tren de ondas está formado por trenes incidente y reflejado, el proceso de rotura se aleja mucho del descrito anteriormente. Cuando ambos trenes viajan en la misma dirección pero con sentidos opuestos y se encuentran las dos crestas, se produce un movimiento vertical de la masa de agua ascendiendo hasta una altura del orden de la suma de las alturas de ola individuales, con el resultado de una pequeña reducción de la altura de ola de cada uno de los trenes y un desfase en su propagación. El papel que desempeña cada una de las olas es actuar como una pared vertical para la otra.
