Spanish to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Transport / Transportation / Shipping / Design, Architecture of Rail System
Spanish term or phrase:arquitectura
This is the context: "El propósito del presente documento consiste en definir la arquitectura del sistema VEGA (Vehicle Electronics for Generic Applications) Se describe cuál es esta arquitectura y porqué se considera que se trata de una arquitectura apropiada para cumplir los requisitos del sistema, tanto los funcionales como los no funcionales. En este apartado se definen cuáles son los subsistemas que surgen del diseño de arquitectura.
Should the term "Arquitectura" no ser quizas "design" in English referring to the VEGA system? (Or some other word as design is used referring to the "arquitectura")
Explanation: See definition 5 below. It means the same as design, but if it says architecture in Spanish, you might as well use the same word in English.

"Diseño de arquitectura" at the end is a tautology - you should use either word, but not both.
structure is the first thing that occurred to me. Depends a bit on who your end reader is, i.e., the general public or people more specialized in the theme.
I don't see why you have such strong objections to "architecture". Information technology has expanded the meanings of hundreds of everyday words: web, browser, window, bookmark, refresh, cut, paste, import... it's just natural evolution. I think it would be wrong to use any word but architecture in this context. Even if you don't like the word, it's what the Spanish says, and it's not your job to impose value judgments.
Phil, I did read your reference but it is not something that I would accept as "bible" definition either I am sorry. However I guess there seem to befew synonyms to date. Thank you anyway.
The software architecture of a system is the set of structures needed to reason about the system, which comprise software elements, relations among them, and properties of both. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_architecture
If you read my reference, the term "architecture" is also used in software.

Notes to answerer
Asker: I find architecture a rather strange term for a programme for a rail system Phil, as architecture usually refers to constructions, i.e. buildings not rail systems, you no?
Asker: As I said Henry, too many technicians using our language wrongly, so I opt for the right to "pataleo" nothing more to be said, I accept the dictators but under protest :-0((
Asker: Si Señor, a sus ordenes Señor, I was not aware that being a translator took our rights away from us too!! I was simply looking for an ACCEPTABLE SYNONYM!! You could always ignore my comments in the future of course Phil couldn't you?
