Spanish to English translations [PRO]
Bus/Financial - Transport / Transportation / Shipping / river shipping
Spanish term or phrase: volúmenes transportados/no transportados
The text is about a shipping company that uses river barges to ship merchandise. It refers to "los volúmenes transportados" - "los volúmenes no transportados" and "los volúmenes que no se transportaron efectivamente". The sentences in which these phrases are used offer little context. For example, "la caída de precio por los volúmenes no transportados se compensa parcialmente con la caída de costos variables ...." I've seen the phrase "shipping volume" in English but don't know how to use this in the plural. Do we really say "volumes" or do we use another term like loads, shipments, cargoes, etc. ? Thanks for your help.

"shipping" se refiere al envío. "shipping volume/volumen de envío".

El término en tu propuesta ("river barges") sería "transport cargo by ship" as in...

"Intermodal freight containers are used to **transport cargo by ship**, rail, or truck and rail and are standardized to allow for interchangeability between these different modes of transport."

http://investor.capps.com/

"container – A box made of steel used to **transport cargo by ship**, rail, truck or barge. Also referred to as steel boxes."

agree  bigedsenior: goods are charged by volume (water transport), by weight or a combination of weight and volume by other means.
