Spanish term or phrase: sintéticas
Hi, I would appreciate your help with this term

This document is about generating different transport models for passengers and freight by using Transcad and Cube Cargo.

Context:

Thanks :)

... between the actual synthesis matrix and the envisaged synthesis matrices.
Explanation:
In this case the synthesis matrix is the combination of partial matrices as has already been clearly pointed out by neilmac.
The calculus of the new matrix follows strict rules involving regressions and statistic tools.
The author used the word "sintéticas" based on his experience, he did not use "mean" or other similar expressions available for this particular context.
I do believe that we should stick to his/her (their) preference.

Explanation:
I'd like to say right off the bat that I've based my answer on my Spanish husband's interpretation 'given the context'. Among the many possibilities, he thought the word meant 'concreto' here. As 'sintético' is one of the words that gives us all ulcers and will never be neatly resolved, I'm throwing this idea into the ring to see what native speakers think of it.

synthesized/synthetic

Explanation:
I believe this identifies the studied situation as possible simulated or synhesized for the purpose os sampling and somehow separated from the routine and normal for the purpose of this study. The word also indicates that the study results includes more than one situation when using the word "sinteticas."

A synthetical situation is a situation that imitates the real. You may find it of use to consider the word "synthetical" as the translation of "sintetica" in this context.

Asker: Thanks :) I was thinking that too, but synthetic does not appear in any related text. I was thinking of artificial/simulated or the sorts.

combined /combination

Explanation:
Synthesis = the combination of two or more parts, whether by design or by natural processes. It loks like they are describing possible combination permutations for routes, hierarchies, etc.

I can't vouch for the writing skills of the text's author. I just think it is a modish/trendy way of saying combinations, which in English doesn't really work well for this type of text IMHO.

There are several possible permutations of passenger/freight transport routes and systems and I believe this is what they men. Quite often when you ask authors why they use a certain term, they will say they saw it in another text somewhere, or that it just sounded "professional"... which may or may not be the case here.

But slothm's version is what you are really looking for.:

Asker: thanks :) wouldn't it be sintetizadas? or is is just a spanglish in the original.
