I imagaine that "tracto mulas" could well be the separate front part of certain lorries that attaches to the part with the load. If so, I can't think what this is in UK English. Is it simply "truck" or what?

TIA for any assistance.

I think you could say: trucks and articulated lorries

The commercial vehicles market is divided into two principal sectors. By far the most important of these, in both volume and value terms, is light commercial vehicles (LCVs) -- vehicles weighing less than 3.5 tonnes, which account for approximately 80% of total production. ***The other main sector is trucks and articulated lorries (HGVs) ***-- vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tonnes. Buses and coaches constitute the industry\'s third sector, but in fact represent less than 1% of the total commercial vehicle industry. The overall size of the market has declined steadily over the last 20 years. In the early 1980s, UK production was estimated at around 389,000 units a year; by 1996, this had fallen to 220,000. This decline has signalled a period of consolidation, with established companies such as Leyland and Ford being forced to seek foreign partners to provide backing.

big trucks

Explanation:
Apparently it should be 'tractomulas'.

See website:
http://colhrnet.igc.org/urgentaction/0100uwaevicted.htm

"Since the January 22, 10 big trucks had arrived to the area of the Samore Block transporting machinery to start the building a road through Cedeño to arrive to our territory. In this sense the absolute resolve of the Occidental of starting oil drilling was re-stated, over the men, women, children, elders, cultures and history, only concerned with extracting oil from these lands."

The English is not too good but you get the gist.

truck or tractor trucks

Explanation:
Tractomulas is just another way to say tractor truck which is a motorized vehicle equipped with a swivel for hauling a trailer, that is, just a truck. By the way, tractomulas are called "gandolas" in Venezuela.

For example, Kentworth, the truck-maker company, calls its trucks "tractomulas" and "tractocamiones":

You can see photos of tractor trucks at:

"Semis"; "Tractor rigs" "18 wheelers", etc.

Explanation:
Saludos, Guillermo
