Zoology / Reproduction
Spanish term or phrase: Monoestéricos y Poliestéricos
This is taken from a Mexican text about types of mammal which are present in a particular area:

"Los mamíferos de dividen en dos categorías: Monoestéricos y Poliestéricos. Los primeros se reproducen una sola vez al año [...] los organismos poliestéricos son aquellos que se reproducen en mas de una ocasión por año"

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

actually mono-oestrus rather than mono-oestrous. I think the cycle itself is called oestrous. In the US they lose the "o"

having checked spelling because of all these variations it seems more common without the hyphen

monoestrous and polyestrous

agree  Libe de las Fuentes: Mammals that breed only once a year are termed monestrous and exhibit a long anestrus; those that breed more than once a year are termed polyestrous. http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/360838/mammal/5169...

agree  Muriel Vasconcellos: monostrous and polyestrous - the policy for US medical terminology is to not use hyphens, as reflected in Dorland and the Merriam-Webster unabridged dictionary.

-> yes, that seems to be the most widespread option, in the UK too.
