Spanish to English translations [PRO] Zoology / Pesca | | Spanish term or phrase: llengüeta | From a document (Spain) on different types of fishing:
Tres especies de góbidos denominadas comercialmente “llengüeta” (Aphia minuta, Crystalogobius linearis, Pseudaphya ferreri).
I know that "góbidos" is "gobies", but not sure about “llengüeta”.
Any suggestions from those familiar with fishing terminology? Thanks in advance!! |
| | | known/sold (commercially) in Spain under the name | Explanation: Hi Sherry,
With fish it's very often tremendously difficult or even impossible to pinpoint a name, since even within the same country the same fish can take different names in different regions (towns even) and the same name can be given to different species of fish.
If I'm not mistaken, gobies are one of the largest fish families of all, with hundreds if not thousands of different species. Imho, it would be folly to expect all three different species commonly given one single name in a particular country or region to also take a single name in another country.
Therefore, I'd suggest a phrase such as the one above.
Good luck!

Actually where that answer says 'folly' it should say something along the lines of 'unrealistic', 'over-optimistic' etc. ;O) ;O) |
