I picadores stanno provando i cavalli per la corrida. Ne viene proposto uno talmente malridotto che il picador non è assolutamente disposto ad accettarlo:

El contratista se acercaba lentamente a _Potaje_, y con la tranquilidad de un hombre experto en estas transacciones, le hablaba al oído. El picador, fingiendo enfado, acabó por acercarse al jaco. ¡Por él que no quedase! No quería que le tuviesen por hombre intratable, capaz de perjudicar a un camarada.

Ho fatto un po' di ricerche. "Por mi que no quede" è una frase fatta, un modo di dire. Ho trovato la seguente traduzione in inglese:

- "por mi que no quede, yo he ayudado en lo que he podido" > "it won't be for want of trying of my part, I helped as much as I could"

Ho fatto un po' di ricerche. "Por mi que no quede" è una frase fatta, un modo di dire. Ho trovato la seguente traduzione in inglese:

- "por mi que no quede, yo he ayudado en lo que he podido" > "it won't be for want of trying of my part, I helped as much as I could"
