Речь идёт о Генрихе II английском. Томас Бекет, его бывший канцлер и друг, став архиепископом Кентерберийским, начал проводить независимую политику. Генрих был зол, и как-то раз высказался в том духе, что все его придворные трусы и глупцы, если позволяют попу оскорблять своего короля. Тогда черверо рыцарей проявили инициативу и зарубили Томаса прямо у алтаря.
