Actually for the context of the particular text for which the question

was asked, "independent artisans" doesn't work at all.

However this is, in my opinion, the best general translation of the

term.

So although Mats gave a good suggestion with "cottage industry," for

this particular context, I wouldn't think that cottage industry would work

in most contexts.

So in the interests of future usefulness, the points go to the

independent artisans (rather than those working in cottages).
