agree  asptech: I am sure it is correct and everything, but what is wrong with just "expenses"

  -> There seems to be a specific financial definition besides ordinary usage. See http://www.referenceforbusiness.com/small/Co-Di/Costs.html, which says "Out-of-pocket costs are those that require the use of current resources, usually cash".
