prescribed a medicine/medication/drug

Explanation:
Depends on the words before + after your phase

But why not just "prescribed a medicine/medication/drug" (depending on target audience and level of text)? That's what doctors do unless they are physically administrating the medicine/medication/drug.

Or, if wishing to convey that a doctor started providing a medication to the patient, you could say "started [Patient X] on a medicine."
