just asked a doctor friend about this one. To administer diuretics to remove excess fluids.

We actually need more context to know which is the correct translation in this case. "5 kg of fluid removed from patient" would be correct for dialysis where it the removal of that amount of fluid is pretty standard and the amount removed is often determined by weighing the patient before and after (thus using kg).

Now that I think about it, "5 kg of fluid were diuresed from the patient" seems less likely as the administration of diuretics increases urine production and the output is generally measured as a volume of urine rather than a number of kg. But doctors do frequently remove fluid from patients with diuretics and refer to it with a verb "to diurese."

disagree  Andrei Gitch: My Mother is a doctor and it made her smile. She asked why not laxatives? Besides quite often liquid must be removed from the lungs, etc. Not fluids.
