5 +1 | "Kiss" |

"Kiss" Explanation: I am quite puzzled how did a non-Tamil speaker come across this very coloquial term!! Actually it should be pronounced as "muththa" (with a stress on 'th') This is an endearing way of asking kids to give a kiss as ("Ore oru muththa thaada"(--meaning--"Give at least one kiss")Even when not using with kids between 2 intimate people of opposite sexes this term could be used. But this is NOT calling someone. If you pronounce the same word as "Mooththa" it means "Senior" or "elderly". Even in Tamil film songs they have used this term for variety. Actually the unabridged original of this word is "Mutham" in Tamil which means "kiss". Since the asker has specified the situation as love, the meaning "kiss" would be more appropriate. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2002-03-12 05:16:57 (GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Hi actually I added a note. I don\'t know why it doesn\'t appear. if the asker means \"muththE\" as in (En muththE--meaning--my pearl) \"muththE means pearl. It is also a term of endearment. If you mean \"muththE\" you could call a lady love using this term in conjuction with \"En\" (En muththE) -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2002-03-12 05:17:48 (GMT) -------------------------------------------------- If the above word is spelt as \"muththE\" then it means \"pearl\" as in (En muththE--meaning Oh, my pearl) This is also a term of endearment. |
