Turkish to English translations [PRO] Art/Literary - Music / Turkish Classical Music | | Turkish term or phrase: dikenli çalı | Hi,
"Gülü yetiştlrir dikenli çalı" comes from an Aşık Veysel song, the rest of which I'll append.
My problem: çalı is "gorse", isn't it? So how could a rose grow on gorse?
It is true that the cognate Persian word "gul" means "flower" in general (mohammadi is used specifically for roses), but I thought that the word was always "rose" in Turkish.
Many thanks,
Simon
