Tech/Engineering - Construction / Civil Engineering | | Vietnamese term or phrase: tường cừ, tường hãm | Help ! Would anyone know what "tường hãm " and "tường cừ " mean ? And the English equivalent please ? This is about bridge construction .
Is one of them a " bearing wall" ?

tường cừ: đóng cọc gỗ (cừ tràm chẳng hạn) thành dãy để chặn đất cho khỏi sập vách (VD: khi đào hố móng trụ cầu)--> dùng cho công trình, hố móng nhỏ.
Nếu là tường cừ ván thép thì lại khác: đó là dùng cọc ván thép (steel sheet pile) để đóng thành dãy gọi là steel sheet wall (tường cừ ván thép): công trình cầu lớn thường phải dùng cái này.
tường hãm: tường chặn đất, thường xây bằng bê tông, gạch để giữ kết cấu sát bên cạnh không đổ sập xuống, có thể dùng retaining wall.
