Sincerely, | | English to Spanish: Comment on a poem / Comentario de un poema - Printing & Publishing | Source text - English “The Lebanese taxi driver”
XXXXX, 10 years old
By reading this poem I could only notice once again the effectiveness and the frankness of the language spoken by children. It is in this frankness where the beauty of the story resides, and it comes to us like a fresh breeze. XXXXX describes the Lebanese taxi driver, and he does it with a language that strikes us by its simplicity and moves us by its complicity. This universal man who is analyzed by the eyes of a child, this man like so many other men, but unique in the imaginary of who is looking at him, has the merit of enclosing in his large Mercedes a heap of observations and many commonplaces. He is, above all things, nice and Lebanese. He does forty things while still having the time to laugh, howl, slow down, skip red lights, and still remain nice and Lebanese. By stressing his humanity is how XXXXX draws the portrait of a person who is accessible, generous, a little irascible and anticonformist, a kind of monument where the Lebanese flag flutters. His image touches us right in our hearts, without fancy detours, glowing metaphors and additional embellishment.
XXXXX describes the taxi driver, object-subject of his poem, and he does it by removing the comments full of criticism of grow-ups, bringing back the observations of a child who lives his every day without censoring himself. | Translation - Spanish “El taxista libanés”
| | English to Spanish: Poem by a child / Poema de un niño - Poetry & Literature | Source text - English Children
Children,
Loving, playful, happy,
Frivolous, forgiving, troublesome,
Mischievious, innocent, impulsive,
Energetic, inquisitive, overbearing
But children
Sometimes we’re very, very good,
On occasions we are just as bad
But always we’re influenced
By the experiences we’ve had
Embrace us, teach us, guide us,
Help us to build our society
Impact our lives in a positive way.
Remember, our future is your responsibility. | Translation - Spanish Niños
Niños,
Cariñosos, juguetones, felices,
Frívolos, comprensivos, traviesos,
Revoltosos, inocentes, impulsivos,
Energéticos, inquisitivos, dominantes
Pero niños
A veces somos muy, muy buenos,
En ocasiones somos igual de malos
Pero siempre estamos influenciados
Por las experiencias que hemos tenido
Abrácennos, enséñennos, guíennos,
Ayúdennos a construir nuestra sociedad
Impacten nuestras vidas de buena manera.
Recuerden, nuestro futuro es su responsabilidad. | | French to English: A girl's interview - General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters | Source text - French Bonjour, moi c’est XXXXX.
| Translation - English Hello, I’m XXXXX. I’m German and Libyan. I was born in Germany and since I was 4 I’ve lived here in Libya. I’m 10 years old. About history, what interests me the most are the stories of Charlemagne, because it’s thanks to him that we can study in school today.
During weekends, I go to school to play tennis, and I’m also taking a course in plastic arts. What I like the most about Libya is that we have plenty of sea, and you can always swim anywhere. Well, in summer you can swim more than in winter, because the weather is really really hot! The temperature can reach 40º C and sometimes even more. On the other hand, in winters we never have less than zero degrees, as in Germany. It doesn’t snow either. Sometimes, there're teeny-tiny ends of ice in the middle of the winter. In Libya there’s also a very large desert. It’s the desert of the Sahara. I’ve been there… and the desert… well, it’s very… desert! You can see stones, and also drawings of prehistoric men. You can also find traces that show you that before being a desert, this place was the sea: there're fossils of shells and fish. That’s all you see in the desert.
My favorite dish here is a dessert: it’s dough, with honey on top. We usually have it in the morning, with breakfast, specially during festivals. |

High-Quality Translations by José Miguel Neira
With an inborn interest in cultures, my life has been plagued with foreign contact.
When I was 6 years old I received the "Best English progress" award given by the Cambridge College, in Santiago de Chile, to one student from first to twelfth grade.
I started self-teaching me English by translating songs into Spanish and translating news into English. I achieved a satisfactory fluency in written and spoken English by the age of 13.
I traveled to Germany alone when I was 14, where I learned some basic German. My communicative process there was basically Germnglish, and I managed to survive and come back enriched by all the experiences lived there. This first trip opened up my mind to a whole world of social, linguistic and cultural variety.
A couple of years later I traveled across center Europe, visiting Spain, France, Italy, Austria, and Germany. In all of those places I learned a bit of their language and culture.
In another trip I went to England, where I had the chance to establish direct and constant contact with English speakers.
I have worked as a bilingual receptionist, consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, and as freelance translator.
I graduated as English - Spanish translator from the Instituto Chileno- Norteamericano I am currently finishing my studies there in the career of English - Spanish Interpreter.
I am also studying in the Universidad Católica the Diploma Specialization in Translation and Information and Communication Technologies.
I am currently working as a volunteer translator for Art in All of Us.
My current specializations are Legal, Telecommunications and Arts (Music, Visual Arts, etc.). |
