PDF --> RTF Sep 30, 2003

Hello,

another fast was is:
Make a pdf file, and save to rtf.

The result is a rtf file without text boxes, which can be analysed.

Trados counts boxes, Word doesn't. Oct 3, 2003

Robin Salmon wrote:

I currently have the same problem and tried analysing the original Word doc in Trados. I got 2,500 words, compared to the 1,750 in Word.
Can other, more experienced translators confirm the accuracy of this method?

My experience shows that Word never counts text boxes while Trados counts them, as long as they are not grouped with or linked to other elements (images or other text boxes).

Macro-phile Mar 26, 2004

This is the first time I've recorded a macro and it was easy and effective. Thanks a million (or so)!

I'm going to try those macros out... May 26, 2004

I admit, I have never run a macro command before. These look very useful. Thanks!

What I was doing to count all the words in MS Word was doing a word count, then highlighting the text in the text box (one text box at a time) and running word count again and adding it up.

A bit more tedious.

Just a note: while Word doesn't include words in text boxes in its word count, it does count text written in tables.

WordPerfect counts words in MSWords text boxes Jul 9, 2004

I used to cut and paste text boxes to count the words but I have discovered that Wordfast, the translation tool, counts them correctly too. WordPerfect has no problem either counting words in text boxes in MS Words documents. About macros Jul 24, 2004

Generally new macros should not be saved in normal.dot or if you do remember to put a copy of normal.dot into a save location after you recorded a new macro. Otherwise they get lost every time normal.dot gets corrupted and has to be created anew.

What about copying text from textboxes? Sep 2, 2004

I think this macro, with some modifications, could be used for copying text from all textboxes in a document and pasting it to another document. Is this a lot of work to do it?

Hi, first post here

I have this document in MS Word, over 50 pages long, and I can do the word count with the Word Count Tool with no problem, BUT does this tool ALSO count words in text boxes? These are boxes drawn with the text box tool in the Drawing toolbar, and then written on. And my document has LOTS of these boxes!

Any help?

Thanks!

Save another copy of the doc. In this copy delete all text-boxes and do the word count. simple as that.
