Hi all,
I looked around but can't seem to find any info on the following: Is there some way to do a word count in Excel (Office XP) without the onerous task of counting manually? I have a series of long, long docs I need to invoice for. Any help is appreciated.

Nancy

Definitely works, at least for me.

Ciao, Evert

copy to Word is a possibility Jul 17, 2004

Just
Ctrl + A
Ctrl + C
in he Excel file (one sheet a time) and
Ctrl + V
in the Word file, and you're able to use the standard Word word count.

You can use Trados as well Jul 17, 2004

Hi Nancy,

Apart from Practicount, you could also use Trados. Just open T-Window for Excel, then click on Tools ==> Analyse and add all files (you don't need to set up a project).

Look at this link, Nancy Jul 17, 2004

I never tried it for Excel but for PPT and Word, it's quite reliable for these files.
I guess that it's about 17 Euros for the Excel Word Count.
Look at it and tell us:

Open it in Word and count Jul 17, 2004

All you need to do is

-start Word
-open your Excel file as a Word document, just as you open any other file in Word: click the File tab above, choose Open, and then choose your file in the window that pops up
-the program will prompt you whether to open the whole workbook or one or more sheets; choose whichever you want
-then count the words using Word's count tool, that's all!

HTH

Regards...

If I open Word, then click on File and Open, only Word files appear, not Excel ones. How do you do this?

Please make sure "Files of type:..." below (in the File Open window) is set to "All files".

use Trados' Analyze Jul 18, 2004

It counts words (and repetitions)in many different file formats.

Export it to Word, perhaps? Jul 19, 2004

I don't know of any, but can't you somehow export it, for instance by cutting/pasting, to Word and count it there?

Regards
Sverre

Good Monday morning all,

Thanks for your responses.

I couldn't use T-Window for Excel, for some reason I keep getting a 'format not recognised' message.

As for PractiCount, Evert, I've been eyeing it with a view to buy, but it's yet another expense in a year full of them for us - plus my husband recommends that I upgrade to Trados 6.5, another rather pricey item... and I still have to complete my bathroom, an unexpected event in our lives (both time & mon

Good Monday morning all,

But transferring the text to Word should work out. Thanks for dragging me out of my fog!

Michael, I checked out the link you added, but again, 119 Euro is a little steep, I find.

OTOH, someone else reading this forum may decide it's just the thing.

Have a fun & productive week, everyone!
