I've been working on a big-ish project that has the same type of 'code' appearing over and over again and Studio (2011) wants me to type it in manually every time. I'm looking for a way to make my life easier here, because the codes are all pretty similarly constructed: it's something like "NAME6.000.1234" with only the underlined part changing every time.

I'm looking for a way to make my life easier here, because the codes are all pretty similarly constructed: it's something like "NAME6.000.1234" with only the underlined part changing every time.

I've tried adding "NAME6.000." to the AutoText feature, but
a) I still have to type NAME (the first 4 characters) before that is triggered, saving me relatively little time (why is it 4? entries from the Termbase trigger after 2 characters..), and
b) of course that still leaves me to type in the variable part at the end (the numbers that I was hoping to avoid in the first place).

So, after some more research I found the Variables list, which as far as I can tell, doesn't help me either, because it apparently only works when the whole variable can be matched, so adding "NAME6.000." will simply not match anything in my source text, thus not giving me any placeables to work with.

So I was wondering if there was any way of getting the variable list (or AutoText for that matter) to accept wildcards or even regular expressions.
Or maybe there's some other way of getting Studio to accept codes that aren't entirely numbers as placeables, or make them easier to handle somehow? I mean, I suppose I could edit the entire source text

is the right way to go - I've got it and will forward it to you, just drop me a e-mail you can try it - this is a replacement rule works like a charm:

([A-Z]+)([0\.-9]+)\.([0-9]+) \1\2.\3 = save as UTF8

That was kind of you to offer, Bernard, but yesterday's login problem is resolved now and I was able to download Terminjector from the App Store.
Will report back once I've had time to try it out.

I made my own rule:
(.+)NAME([0-9])\.([0-9][0-9][0-9])\.([0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9])(.+) NAME\2.\3.\4
