Yes, just download the free MS Word macro "PlusTools". You can use it even if you don't have Wordfast. It was made by the Wordfast people.

Wordfast alignment solutions Oct 21, 2014

And does Wordfast for freelancers have a system to align bilingual texts and create a translation Memory?

Wordfast offers three alignment tools, all of which can be used without a Wordfast license:

1) Wordfast Online Aligner, included in Wordfast Anywhere (you need to create yourself an account at www.freetm.com). It has restrictions related to the maximum size of documents you can upload.

2) PlusTools, a freeware Word macro you can download at wordfast.net > products > download (you can find instructions on how to use it here). PlusTools can only align Word documents.

3) Wordfast Aligner beta, included in Wordfast Pro (you need to download Wordfast Pro, available here). Note it's only included in the Windows version (probably not a problem for you). It's a bit clumsy, is still labeled as beta and hasn't been updated since 2010. I would therefore not recommend using it.

If you need to align Word documents (as opposed to PowerPoint etc.), I would recommend LF Aligner, an excellent free/open source aligner. You can find a video about its use made by yours truly here.

How do I install Plus Tools in Word2010? Oct 21, 2014

Ok, the Plus Tools manual says
"In Ms-Word, use the Tools/Templates & Add-Ins menu to add the PlusTools.dot template to your list of templates."
I have Word 10.
There is no "Tools" menu.
I click on 'File/Options/Add-Ins" and then what?
I see my "Active Application Add-Ins" but I see not "Add template" buttons.
And I am a little wary of clicking randomly in the Organizer.

Word templates in Word 2010 Oct 21, 2014

You need to go to: File > Options > Add-ins. At the bottom, where it says Manage:, pick up Word Add-ins from the dropdown menu and click on Go. In the next dialog box, click on Add and point to the PlusTools template (PlusTools.dot).

The default path for Word templates (= where Word expects them to be) is:

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates

You can put them in any other folder you like.

If you want a given template to be loaded automatically each time you start Word, it should be copied to Word's Startup folder. The path to that folder is normally:

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP

Note AppData is a hidden folder, so you'll need to make hidden files and folders visible in order to "see" it (hidden files and folders are not visible by default in Windows).

In 2011:

and a few weeks ago:
http://www.proz.com/forum/cat_tools_technical_help/274583-choosing_a_cat_tool_for_translating_pdfs_and_word_documents.html#2341936

It concerns the question of whether the process by which the CAT tool decides what is a segment (sentence) to translate is entirely automated or whether the translator can decide at the time of doing the translation.
