Is Studio supported on an iMac 27" Retina, running Parallels Desktop 10?
What resolution / screen settings should I use to have those tiny GUI elements displayed in a decent size on an iMac 27" Retina? (Text in the grid and in the ribbon is displayed correctly.)
Especially the file and project names are hardly readable. But also the icons for locked segments / segment states are hardly visible in the grid.

I'm afraid you can't fix this problem by changing screen settings. The problem is the Retina display itself, which uses 4 pixels for what is 1 pixel on all other screens. Now, developers who want their products to appear properly on Retina displays have to make larger icons but have them appear shrinked on the GUI: for example, if an icon is to appear as 120x120 px, the source graphic has to be 240x240 px. Is this a Parallels Desktop issue?
Can I expect SDL Studio 2014 to look all right on a Retina display if I install Windows 8.1 via Boot Camp?
Since this quite a lot of work, I'd better ask first  .

How does it look on your retina MacBook? I'd expect the same problems, but so far, nobody complained.

This MacBook Pro screen is only 13", so the problem doesn't exist there.
I've now installed VMware fusion and migrated my Parallels Desktop VM (which was very easy to do).
Here (and not in Parallels!) I can use a lower resolution (2560x1600). Windows 8.1 doesn't cover my whole 27" screen*), but when I set font size in Windows to 150 %, things are looking quite good.
I see that the size of the whole VMware window, including the Fusion toolbar is:
Width: 4360, Height: 2724

Retina display support in VMware Fusion (2034670)
VMware Fusion 7.x, 6.x and 5.x includes Retina display support. To make use of this new feature, you require:
Retina display equipped Mac hardware.
Windows 7 or Windows 8 as a guest.
The VMware Fusion user interface and art has been updated to take advantage of the crispness of the Retina display. By default, VMware Fusion scales (pixel-doubles) a Windows virtual machine to ensure maximum compatibility.
Retina display support is not enabled by default. Users can switch to enable full Retina display under Settings > Display > Use full resolution for Retina display.
Optimizing Windows when running on a Retina display
When using full resolution, Windows icons and text appear very small. This can be adjusted under the Control Panel in Windows 7 and 8. For maximum crispness on the Retina display, the ClearType settings can also be tuned in the Control Panel. For more information, see the Microsoft article Getting the best display on your monitor.
Limitations of Retina display support
Entering Unity mode when running on a Retina display with Use full resolution for Retina display selected results in larger than expected text. VMware recommends using Single-window and Full screen modes when using full Retina display resolution.
Mac OS X running in a virtual machine is limited to an approximate resolution of 2560 x 1600, and treats the display as a standard DPI device. This makes the text and icons to appear small in the OS X interface.
iMac 5K 5120 x 2880 retina display is currently not supported in VMware Fusion.

This is exactly what I don't understand. The "retina" pixel density is supposed to be depending on the screen size and the distance to the screen. So I'd expect the same problems to occur for a 13" and a 27" screen. Where do I go wrong?

Size of the VM window: 5112 x 2724 without the Fusion Toolbar visible (that's almost the full width of the 27" Retina screen, a little space left at the bottom of the window, showing the OS X Desktop)

4042 x 2154, text size enlarged to 200 %

One problem solved, another to solve: why doesn't Studio display my projects list? I noticed that there isn't a projects.XML in my projects folder (c:\Users\hans\Documents\Studio 2014\). Note that this is a VM that I've migrated from Parallels Desktop. Perhaps that is relevant here.

And the one that appears when one has to select the five languages to use with Studio again. Here the language names are completely cut of in height.
