"I for one" is perfectly fine, use it if you feel it fits the text you are writing. As language professionals, I think we should very carefully separate our personal preferences from the actual norms of written language. Many people are already insecure about their writing skills, no need to make it worse with made-up rules.

There are plenty of cases of things that are actually wrong. I think that "I for one" is perhaps poor style in some people's opinion, but not a real solecism, of which I notice plenty, such as (the few I can think of immediately):
confusing "on the part of" and "on behalf of", "oral" and "verbal", "amount of" and "number of", saying things like "that isn't equally important for Tom and I".

I don't see this as particularly offensive, it's just another way of adding emphasis (along with 'personally, as far as I'm concerned" etc.), largely redundant yes, but it's nice to have the option of adding emphasis when needed.
