I have recently upgraded to Across 6.3 (just the Translator Basic Edition so far) at the behest of my one regular client who uses Across. In order to install the new version, I had to subscribe to crossMarket. So I duly did that and set up a bit of a profile on there (somewhat limited because I'm not a paying subscriber at this juncture). Yesterday I got my first new client through crossMarket. They sent me a CAP file and password. But when I enter the password, I just get the following message:... See more

So I duly did that and set up a bit of a profile on there (somewhat limited because I'm not a paying subscriber at this juncture). Yesterday I got my first new client through crossMarket. They sent me a CAP file and password. But when I enter the password, I just get the following message:

"Registed [sic] shared database cannot be used. Do you want to create a new database?"

If I select "No", that just returns me to the opening screen. But if I click "Yes", then I get this delightful piece of gobbledygook:

"User is not inserted. Details: IDispatch error #3149 [Invalid authorization specification] Invalid authorization specification [hr=-2147217843] (Thread 0x3c8 RefCount 0->1 CreateInstance createComObj.hr = 0 CmdTimeout=0,ConTimeout=120, Cursor=-1 ) Code:#0 File: DConnect.cpp Line: 306"

So I can't log into this new client's server and do their job. Fantastic way to start with version 6.3! Has anyone else experienced this error, or might have any idea what is causing it? I can still at least log into my other Across client's server.

Gobbledygook translated Dec 22, 2015

In this case, that gobbledygook is diagnostic information which translates to 0x80040E4D or "invalid connection string" - their server software is unable to access the database server on their end. Really, all you can do is tell them you've encountered this problem, then they can get it fixed.

Solution: Update Across Dec 22, 2015

Well, it turns out that my problem was I had an out-of-date version of Across 6.3. They have already released a new patch. I had to download and install Version 7490_en, Package 19. After doing that, I was able to log in without any trouble!

New Across 6.3 patch does resolve activation problems and errors Dec 29, 2015

This also worked for me but I had already wasted several hours trying to retrieve a package, repairing Across and then uninstalling and reinstalling with no results.

Across support very poor Jan 5, 2016

I bought the new Edition 6.3 this morning. I installed it and then tried to log on to my projects but it just gave the error message "initializing Across environment". I notified the Helpdesk but nobody has got back to me and I don't have a solution.

Across 6.3 insanely slow Jan 10, 2016

Upon request of a customer, I installed Across 6.3 yesterday, the paid version on top. In Across 6 I averaged 300 words an hour. In the new one I can't do more than 50. It takes several seconds until typed characters appear. Copying matches, concordance search ditto. This way I won't be able to keep the deadline, never mind making a living. For an investment of 140 Euro, I can't work.
The laptop is 1 year old and corresponds to system reqs. ASUS X200M, CPUN2830, 2.16 GHz, 4GB RAM, Windows

All other programs run problem-free. LIghtroom imported 187 photos for about the same time that Across needs to copy a 100% string.
Has anybody else experienced this? I contacted Across Support (quite a hassle), it's Sunday, thus no responce. The client doesn't have a clue either.
Any advice appreciated.
Is there anybody who didn't have problems with Across 6.3?

same problem as Maria Jan 11, 2016

Haven't tried to contact support yet, but the agency I use Across for has already told me that I have gotten further than most of their clients who didn't even manage to log in.
Also, it is quite poor that in 6.3, the free version doesn't allow you to complete your own projects any more (not that I ever used it unless an agency client requested it - still, I found that irritating).

In my opinion, 6.3 was brought to market in a way too immature state - and will probably mark

Hanging in there with all of you ...

Solution found Jan 11, 2016

I actually discovered that I should have updated my new pc to Windows 10. I had to repair certain update components and then Across finally worked. However, I did this all on my own and by chance without a solution being found by Across support for more than a week. I think if you launch a new product it should at least work properly..

What to repair? Jan 11, 2016

Until now I postponed the update to WIN10, although Windows keeps pushing me on a daily basis. How did you find out what you need to repair and how did you repair it?
I wait a bit more for Across support, finally they said that Win 7 is OK....

Across 6.3 released far too early Jan 11, 2016

I agree with what was said previously here that 6.3 has been released far too early. My own problem with 6.3 is described in another post and has led to hours of wasted time and a bit of worry. According to my client my own problem is shared by someone else so I am not alone!- Are they in a rush to make some money by selling subscriptions.

I am using Windows 8 - Is it necessary to upgrade to windows 10 for Across? I am very wary of doing so as I have so many programs -Trados and Systran for instance - that I'm not 100% will work OK. I'm also wary of MS's motives for making us update - will we be paying subscriptions for Windows in a few months?? Will all out pirated leisure software suddenly fail?

Forced Membership Jan 18, 2016

Personally, I think it is shameful for Across to force membership on translators (who have to work very hard for their income) in order to work with two or more clients at the same time. I know I'm not the only translator to feel this way and I've already had one client send me a Trados package instead just to avoid this problem. Seems to me that Across might lose some (perhaps loyal) customers over this. I could be wrong.

Cannot log in to customer's server Apr 5, 2016

I have exactly the same issue with Across 6.3 as Seamus. I upgraded from 5.7 to 6.3 without any problems but when I log in to my customer's server on Across splash screen I get the error message "Initializing Across environment" and then "Invalid username or password". The softkey and password are correct.

I logged a support ticket yesterday but have not received any reply so far.

Your client should update their server to fixed version Apr 6, 2016

It's an Across problem and it is fixed in newer version of server (build 7747 or newer). Probably you'd rather contact your customer, so they request update from Across Support.

It's frustrating May 25, 2016

I'm a long time Across user (since 2005), and I use Windows 10, together with the new Across 6.3 full version, and it is driving me crazy.

Looks to me, as if this is a classical case of premature release and I'm NOT amused.
