Ever since SDLX bought Trados i get to hear about trados freelance. I do however have a LSP licence and would like to upgrade it too.

Does the fact that I can't find anything anymore about Trados LSP means that the restrictions between freelance and LSP do not exist anymore? If I ugrade, would it means that the upgrade also works on my LSP licence or that my dongle will be converted to a freelance version which would mean I would loose all the advantages of LSP that I paid last yea

Does anyone know what happens with trados LSP??

Yolande

Edit: Just came to my mind:
As I bought trados LSP I had to go trough one of their partner, which is actually a translation agency doing more or less the same than me (so i don't expect any support from them).
Didn't a translation agency gave a though of having to send your bank details as well as the systems their are using to the competition and now to SDL???
It means in the end that I am now depend on two other translations agencies to work on the software. I don't like it.
What will happen if SDL decides to promote another agency in Austria for their business and decides i should not use their software??
Many are saying microsoft everywhere is no good. I am saying depending on two competiting agencies to develop one business is a bad strategy. I would be probably for me the time to decide where I stand and if I really want to develop my business with trados/SDLX or if I could find the same somewhere else.

Ask Trados Sep 25, 2005

Hi Yolande,

Ever since SDLX bought Trados i get to hear about trados freelance.

Not sure how you got that impression - a couple of weeks ago, I participated in a joint web-based presentation by Trados & SDL, that was specifically aimed at LSPs.

I do however have a LSP licence and would like to upgrade it too.

Which should be no problem - just ask Trados, and they will quote you a price.

Does the fact that I can't find anything anymore about Trados LSP means that the restrictions between freelance and LSP do not exist anymore?

Not at all - but LSP licenses were never 'openly' on sale via TranslationZone. Also, there's a whole LSP section on the main Trados site...?

If I ugrade, would it means that the upgrade also works on my LSP licence or that my dongle will be converted to a freelance version which would mean I would loose all the advantages of LSP that I paid last year for a quite expensive price.

I think you're mixing up a few issues and concepts here. When upgrading a T6.5 LSP dongle to T7 LSP, you can choose between upgrading the dongle, or switching to a soft license. But that upgraded license will be LSP. Where did you get the idea that your license would be 'downgraded'?

I would suggest to get in touch with Trados directly.

Best regards,
Ralf

I lost the extras options of the freelance as I upgraded to LSP Sep 25, 2005

Hello Ralf,

I got the idea the licence would be downgraded because as I bought the upgrade from LSP version, I lost the options I got on the freelance version (like winalign and stagger), at least I got the feeling that it had been so.

Now since I am using tradostags quite a lot, I have to consider either buying this option again(at about 500€ ) as well as the upgrade option at more than 175 € (LSP is always more expensive and I don't want to use trados workbench on word, it had caused me too much problems in the past and i don't count the times I ended up with twin2clean)or on the other side another trados freelance 7 that I could use for some cases and for others the LSP.

I can't have a soft licence, I have 2 computers and Trados told me the soft licence can be in my case only for one.

Check again Sep 26, 2005

Hi again,

IIRC the availability of S-Tagger depends on the LSP version ('LSP' vs. 'Power LSP'), but WinAlign should be part of both. Check your installation...

Again, there's a bit of a mix-up here - if you want to use both versions in parallel, you need a new FL license, not an upgrade. (Also, you cannot upgrade to Freelance from LSP...)

I can't have a soft licence, I have 2 computers and Trados told me the soft licence can be in my case only for one.

There's no all-purpose solution to this issue. If the two machines are networked (and assuming you're not working on them in parallel), you can use a soft license. If one of them is a notebook, you can even use it, but this depends on your situation.

Once again, I would suggest talking to Trados directly.

Cheers, Ralf

Upgrade Sep 26, 2005

Hi again,

So far last time I tried I had been told I did not have the licence for it and it was running in demo mode and could not export the result. I am not using much winalign but I got crossed as I read that. I will have to buy power LSP if I go on with trados but I somehow fell that I could take a freelance version for the convertion, using the LSP for the rest.

I did upgrade from freelance to LSP because I was from time to time dealing with TM of other languages (and I did upgrade!). My two computers are on ethernet. None of them are notebooks, both independant computers. I had been told at the time that the softkey was not been planned to be used by two computers with a LSP licence. If I took a LSP licence I had to decide on which computer I would want to install the softkey.

As I said, i will only contact Trados if I am really sure about I want. If I want anything, I would have to go through their provider for Austria for which I am of no importance at the moment but could carries me problems if we start sharing the same client since he is doing the same thing on the same markt.

Sorry for the trouble,

Yolande
