After installing Trados 7 I suddenly could not run a spell check anymore - an oversight, I had to tell the program I was using the Word spell check. So I did that. I tested it on one document, and it went smoothly (as far as things can go smoothly in TE). That was this morning. This afternoon - computer was switched on all the time -it stopped working (even on the same document it won't work!). A message pops up saying: Could not locate MS word spelling components. I checked in Word - spell check is there. It does not seem to make sense. I know many people have problems with spell check in TE, but how is it possible that it works in the morning and stops working in the afternoon? The only thing I can think of is to switch down everything and try again - I will do that tomorrow. Any ideas about how this is possible? This is not a real problem, really. Just close Tageditor and Word, it it is running. Look in TaskManager (CTRL+ALT+DEL, processes), if any instances of Word are still open - if so, close them. Restart Tageditor - now your spell checker will be ok. Why it happens? Because Tageditor, when Word spell checker is activated, starts a hidden instance of Word. Now when you open any Word document then and close Word, you close the connection between Word and Tageditor. This is a small inconvenience you have, when using Tageditor with Word spellchecker. You must remember not to open ttx and Word files at the same time. You have to have either a doc or a ttx open at one time, not both simultaneously. And please do not say Trados is so bad - this is a good solution in my oppinion, as you are not forced to buy any additonal spell checkers, but are using those you already have. And for example for Polish there are not many alternatives - another spellchecker is not available AFAIK. Don´t close Word for any reasons, than nothing happens. If you close Word, the spell checker will stop working. I do know SDLX too little to tell, how the spellchecker works there. But I do not prefer SDLX for numerous reasons, format painting all above them So individuall is this. Kind regards Jerzy | |

Hi Jerzy, In answer to what you point out, for some reason, the spell check in SDLX does not spot as many spelling/grammar mistakes as Word. Though I suppose SDLX connects to Word, just like Trados does. I have done the test lots of times, running the spell check directly while seeing the ITD bilingual copy and running it separatedly in the target clean copy in Word. Very different results...
