Hi,

I am using Vista, Office 2007 and TagEditor, Version 8.0, I am translating into Polish, every time I try to use a spell checker (in Tag Editor) I receive a communicate: "Could not locate the Microsoft Word spelling component for the current target language. Please ensure that your Microsoft Word dictionaries are installed and tested."

The problem is that spell checker in Word works absolutely fine. What could be the reason?

TIA
Stanislaw

I'm not sure if TE 8.0 can work with Words 2007 spellchecker May 3, 2008

Please go to http://talisma.sdl.com and search for the article 1583.
As attachment to this artcile you'll find the latest version of Tageditor (it is build 836, working of course only with SDL Trados 2007 SP2).
It includes Word Spelling Checker Version 2.0, which I suppose to work with Office 2007.

Thank you very much Jerzy May 3, 2008

Just one more question - is it safe to do the upgrade in the middle of a project?

Best Regards
Stanislaw

Hard to tell May 3, 2008

Usually yes, but...
You know, sh... happens.
Depends on the project - when it is not that big, I would not hesitate.
In the middle of a big project with a tough deadline however... I think in this case I would wait.

Just try to register the software (I do not mean activation but registering in the Windows registry).

I've downloaded SP2 and spell checker works fine May 4, 2008

I realized that I bought SLD Trados recently before SP2 has been released and actually never made an upgrade.
I still have a small problem with the preview function - when I try to use it program keeps asking me for the original doc file (and I never had this doc file, I have received from the client ttx and pdf) but it is really great to be able to use spell checker within Tag Editor

Thank you Jerzy...

I think the issue was different May 4, 2008

Hi Stanislaw,

I've had this happen recently, without any underlying conflicts in software versions or software compatibility conflicts.

In my case, it was simply that an instance of Word was stuck in memory, probably from a previous Trados analysis/cleanup operation. I unloaded it from memory, restarted TagEditor, and voila!

HTH,
Mikhail

the old problem? May 4, 2008

Being an old SDLX user, I use TagEditor or Workbench only when I’m forced to, but I clearly remember a hint from a colleague I worked for at that time: “When you use TagEditor and have a Word file open, do not close it ‘cause you’ll face problems with your spell-checker.” And she was right. Restarting the session seemed the only solution. Your message could indicate the old glitch persists.

Word in background May 5, 2008

This is very old - indeed.
I've been telling this to all participants in my workshops about Trados and tried also to spread this information online.
When working with Tageditor you simply should forget, that you have Word on your PC.

As for the software asking for the original file - this is per design so. When you get only ttx and pdf from the customer, you are not able to produce the final file, as you need the source file for that. This is why Tageditor does ask you f

That did the trick in my case! Brilliant! (c:

Reload Spelling Checker Plugin Jun 11, 2008

Hi all,
I'm experiencing this bug even with SP2. But it's always helped me to deactivate and re-activate the Word spelling checker plugin in TagEditor. When reactivated, the Word spelling checker is working fine (although it's dead slow - as usual).

Re-activating the spell checker worked... and for the 836 hotfix - it is incredible that the producer of this piece of software doesn't inform their customers about such hotfixes.... It has been a living nightmare to use Tageditor the last year.

Nothing helps Aug 11, 2009

Hi All,

thank you for all the tips and hints, but nothing helped.

I tried:
- deactivating/reactivating Word spell check plug-in
- closing winword.exe process using Task manager and restarting TagEditor (which always invoked winword.exe upon startup - tried to leave it/close it)
- registering SDL Trados in Windows registry using the small utility supplied with SDL Trados

I'm using SDL Trados 2007 8.3.0.863 (Build 863), Office 2007, Vista B

...and the st...id SpellChecker won't work! Spellchecker within Word 2007 works fine.

Any other tip except throwing my laptop out of the window?

MANY THANKS!

UPDATE: Problem resolved: I have to buy SLOVAK dictionary for €31.05. Thank you Micro$oft! :-/

It worked when I deactivated the Word spelling checker plugin in TagEditor, but same problem appeared when I reactivated it. Should I just not use the word spelling checker function?

FINALLY RESOLVED Sep 30, 2009

PROBLEM FINALLY RESOLVED:

Office (incl. Word) 2007 contains spell checking dictionary for a few languages only - often only English, German, Spanish and French. The other ones (incl. Slovak, Czech, and many others) require separate purchase for about €30.
BUT: there is one solution. For those, who owned an Office 2003 licence before buying/upgrading to Office 2007 there's a possibility to use Office 2003 spellchecking dictionaries. Simply throw in (into the CD-ROM drive, of course) the Office 2003 installation CD, run CUSTOM installation and:
DESELECT ALL APPLICATIONS included in the package
SELECT ONLY Spell Checker
CLICK "INSTALL"

The installation completes and ONLY Spell Checker will be installed - no need to install Word nor any other application included in the Office package. Run Word 2007 and click REVIEW/SET LANGUAGE. You should see an ABC icon next to your language (as seen next to English for example). This tells you, the spell checker for that particular language has been installed and is active. Now run TagEditor, open any file and hit F7 (Check spelling). Open up a champaigne and have fun.
