A powwow is planned for people who arrive in Budapest by Friday.

THE LOCATION OF FRIDAY'S DINNER IS NOW FINAL.

There will be a fold-out city map pinned on a message board in the hotel lobby, with the most important places of interest marked, including all dinner locations.

This place is located just in front of the Music Academy, under a large statue of Franz Liszt, on the corner of Liszt Ferenc tér and Király utca.

1. How to get there:

A. From Oktogon

Go to Oktogon. Walk to the left from Hotel Benczúr till the end of Benczúr utca. Turn right at Bajza utca. Cross the main avenue (Andrássy út). Take the underground for three stops, to Oktogon. You might as well walk, you get there in 10 minutes.

Once you are at Oktogon, walk towards the city center. Just a hundred meters later you will find two elongated squares opposite each other. The one on your right hand is Liszt Ferenc tér, perhaps the liveliest spot in Budapest, with many open-air cafés. Walk past all cafés, until the far end of the square, next to a small parking lot. Birdland is right there, under a green Beck's sunshade.

B. On Király utca.

Alternatively, you can take another route as well, parallel to Andrássy út. As you walk to the left from Hotel Benczúr, go till the end of the street. Here, on Bajza utca, turn left. At the next intersection with the traffic lights, you will see a little church on your left. There's a trolley bus stop right there. You should take number 78.
Take this trolley bus until you cross Erzsébet körút - this is a wide boulevard with traffic jams and crowded yellow trams. Get off right after you cross this road. You will get off at another small church. Walk back one block, then turn left. Birdland will be there in the first building, under a green Beck's sunshade.

You might as well walk all the way. At the traffic light at Bajza utca (where you see the church on your left), turn right on Városligeti fasor. You will cross a small square called Lövölde tér, then continue straight ahead. From this point, the street is called Király utca. Walk ahead, past the main boulevard. You will soon see the Music Academy on your right. Birdland is right there, under a green Beck's sunshade.

The indoors area is reserved for us from 18:30. When you get there, the "code" is either "Proz.com" or "Bán Csaba".

The indoors area has 50 seats. As not all of us will eat at the same time, this should be no problem, even we turn out to be more than 70.

The decor of this restaurant is jazz theme, as its name suggests, but they are very strong in traditional Hungarian cuisine.


As on all powwows, everybody is expected to pay for their own consumption. Everybody is welcome - even if you do not attend the conference itself.

You will be requested to ask for a bill before you move to another table. A service charge is not included, but you are expected to give some tip, somewhere between 5 and 10%, by rounding up the value.

(E.g. 2820 will be 3000, 3380 will be 3600, etc.)

There will be live piano music between 8 and 11.


When you sign up, please enter at least the following information in your line: (1) if you bring any guests, if yes, how many, (2) if you plan to have a dinner. (E.g. "1 guest, yes - looking forward to this" or "No - only some booze then I go snooze", etc.)


This powwow is planned for April 27th, Friday evening, from 6 pm onwards.
