Venue & Agenda
Hello everyone,
Regarding the venue, I'll get back to you on this by the end of the week as I have few ideas but I haven't decided yet. I want to make sure the place allows us to move around and talk to each other and not be stuck at a table.
The Agenda - I've recently read "Pyramids and Nightclubs" by L.L.Wynn and somewhere in the book she mentions that at one of the conferences about Egyptology (which she attended) most of the presentations were made in English and the Arabic interpretation did not cover all of the sessions.
I'd like to hear your opinion on the subject.
And furthermore:
Have you noticed any changes related to the Arabic translation market in the last 4-5 years due to globalization? Did you change your marketing strategies as a result?
If any of you would like to bring up other subjects, please feel free to do so.
All suggestions are welcome and I'd like to underline that.

The powwow will be held at the "Grand Hyatt Cairo" Hotel (Garden City) on August 21, 2008 - 6pm to 10pm.

The attendance is free of charge and the small buffet will include hot drinks, water and snacks.
The meeting room is located on the first floor of the hotel and it should be pretty easy to find. If you encounter any problems feel free to ask the front desk or call me; my phone number is 012-242 0301.
Please bring an ID.
Also, please edit your attendance as I am expected to confirm the final number of seats.

i am really interseted in meeting other senior translators. I hope that we choose a public place. What about Al Azhar park. I think it is a good place. Fridays and Saturdays are the best to hold this gathering.

First of all, I have no problem at all with whatever time and place you guys agree on. So wherever the majority goes, count me in -- for tallying purposes lol.
Now, the last PowWow that took place in Cairo was in Costa Coffee (the one in Abbas Al-Aqqad, Nasr City). I'm not particularly a fan of Costa, but that one is probably spacious enough for large groups. If I remember correctly, there were more than 10 people last time, and it wasn't uncomfortable.... That said, I think we can safely exclude anything in City Stars, since it's either too busy, too loud, or both. But again, I have no problem if you guys decide to go there.

if u guys are planning on meeting at Costa, there is a huge one downtown, and i mention downtown because it's more centered, that's all. there is also a new one in Mossaddaq st., Duqqi. it's pretty spacious too. can't wait to see you guys and Mary, thanks a million for planning this event, I just joined Proz and i'm trying to start a career as a freelance translator, so I know this will be sooo beneficial to me. thanks again.
