La présente Psychologie des mathématiques s'inscrit dans le champ de ce que H. Blumenberg a pu appeler, en s'intéressant à d'autres domaines du savoir que les mathématiques, une métaphorologie. Elle cherche l'affectivité essentielle qui s'attache à l'activité de faire des mathématiques, elle articule cette affectivité avec une rhétorique, à la façon dont Aristote faisait de la réflexion sur les passions un chapitre majeur de sa Rhétorique. En variant les angles d'approche et les périodes considérées, l'auteur s'efforce de montrer les aspects non conceptuels qui pourtant contribuent à l'activité conceptuelle, sans qu'il s'agisse jamais, au fil des recherches sur la mathématique et sur la physique, de verser dans quelque mysticisme. On peut, en réfléchissant aux aspects non conceptuels qui agissent en mathématiques, faire oeuvre rationnelle, cet ouvrage veut en être la preuve. | Translation - French
The present Psychology of Mathematics places itself in the scope of what H. Blumenberg – when investigating other domains of knowledge than mathematics – called a metaphorology. It investigates the essential affectivity attached to the activity of doing mathematics; it articulates this affectivity with a rhetoric, in the same way Aristotle made the reflection on passions into a major chapter of his Rhetoric. By varying approach angles and considered periods, the author strives to show the non-conceptual aspects which yet contribute to conceptual activity, without ever letting any mysticism account for his research on mathematics and physics. It is possible to reflect on the non-conceptual factors acting in mathematics in a rational way: this book is willing to prove it. |
